Metrological and related issues for calibration and evaluation of non-destructive and non-invasive analytical techniques

ABSTRACT
This special session aims to focus on the analytical challenges of the employment of modern instrumental techniques, like XRF, μXRF, XRD, SIMS, LA-ICP, portable instruments, etc. to archaeometric analysis. For instance, the problem of solid standards for calibration and evaluation of non-destructive and non-invasive analytical techniques is critical. In many cases there are few available reference or certified reference materials and specimens, they are not sufficiently matrix-matching for the variety of analysed materials, the correction methods provided by instruments’ manufacturers are frequently questionable, etc.. This metrological aspect as well as other similar ones are quite important in archaeometric and cultural heritage chemical analysis and people try to remedy by this various approaches in order to improve the accuracy of the results. Therefore, we invite researchers to contribute and participate in this session and present their research and experience on the above described topics.
ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS
George Zachariadis is full professor in the Department of Chemistry of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His research interests include Quantitative Chemical Analysis, Instrumental Chemical Analysis, Chemometrics, Metrology and Quality Control, and also Archaeometry and Bioanalysis. He teaches in two master degree programs in Chemical Analysis in Quality Control and Bioanalysis and in other two master degree programs in Archaeometry, Archaeological materials and analytical diagnostic tools in Cultural inheritance monuments protection and restoration. He has supervised several PhD dissertations and many master and senior theses on the above mentioned scientific areas. His research includes the development of combined chemical analysis techniques, atomic spectrometry and mass spectrometry, speciation in metal analysis and analyte determination in biological substrates, as well as environmental and technological and archaeological materials. He is the author or co-author of 13 tutorial books and an international book on «Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry».. He has authored or co-authored 145 conference communications and of 150 original scientific papers. There are more than 4000 citations in his scientific work up to the beginning of 2021. He acts as reviewer in about 30 international journals and as Guest Editor of special issues in the journals Current Analytical Chemistry and in Separations.
