WIE event in the frame of MetroArcheo 2022
Experiences on the path towards gender equality in cultural heritage
In line with the objectives of the WIE Commitment Chart "Steering girls to STEM" (https://site.ieee.org/italy-wie/steer2stem/), the purpose of this special session is to discuss the challenges, prospects for growth, and best practices development to foster the inclusion of women in the multidisciplinary world of the conservation of Cultural Heritage (material science, engineering, metrology, archaeology, conservation etc.).
"Typical male" and "typical female" roles are a widespread belief, which contributed to the development of stereotypes that have either promoted or narrowed chances for women and men to operate within the Cultural Heritage field. Indeed, in this context, gender equality is still an open issue and reaching gender equality, by valorising diversity and increasing inclusion, in terms of leadership and opportunities, is still a challenge.
