Abstract

In the numismatic environment, the weight value is the most important feature as this represents the essence of the coins and their main task.
It reveals the economic background and its business scope.A number of aspects testify that the weight value is at the base of any metal currency and most of all in the fractionation system.
The Società Mediterranea di Metrologia Numismatica that takes part to the METROARCHAEO 2017 will propose an entire session of papers ranging from studies on metal composition of some archaic and medieval coins, to the exhibition of metrological systems used on coins during the roman, medieval and modern ages.
